Cavities are classified into three types depending on the type of decay. If the decay is superficial then it is called Coronal, if it is deeper, then it is called root decay and the third type of decay is recurrent, the description of which is evident from its name. Recurrent decay takes place just below the fillings of your teeth. This is caused due to improper fillings, gap between fillings and non-removal of cavities before filling.

Cavities may also result from dry mouth, a problem that is associated with no or little saliva in the mouth.
