Why Vitamins Are Essential to Our Health

Vitamins in a more specific term is a nutrient, organic in compound which can be required to be taken in small appropriate amounts by a living organism in small appropriate amounts. Essential fatty acids, essential amino acids, essential nutrients and dietary minerals are not included in the ‘vitamin’ term; not even the hundred other nutrients that may promote health but not really essential for it. These vitamins are very necessary when it comes to health purposes. Vitamins are important for our bodies to function normal and well because with the bodies few exceptions, there are vitamins and nutrients which cannot be made by itself.

Vitamins cannot be used as substitute for food. By themselves alone, vitamins have zero calories. They are also
not replacements for fats, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, and other essential nutrients. It is not recommended to take vitamins in exchange of eating food; taking vitamins alone can’t be expected to make a person healthy and strong.

Vitamins were created for various reasons. They energize and regulate our metabolism. Enables healthy cell growth and helps in the formation of blood clot when a person bleeds. Vitamins are also responsible for the
colors we see with our eyes instead of only seeing black and white. When the body lacks or doesn’t have enough of a certain or a particular vitamin, deficiency of those vitamins occurs. There are deficiencies that may lead to certain conditions and diseases which are much harder to deal with and can’t be treated by the supplementation of that certain vitamin alone. But some deficiencies can simply be cured by consuming foods with great sources of the certain vitamin that you need.

There are two types of vitamins, water-soluble vitamins and fat soluble vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve faster with water which can’t be stored in our body for longer periods of time; they travel through our bloodstream and the excess which the body will have no more use with will be extracted out from it by means of urine or sweat. Examples of these vitamins are Vitamin B and Vitamin C, which needs to be replaced on a daily basis. Fat soluble vitamins are the types of vitamins that can be stored in our body for as long as the body needs them. They are stored in fatty tissues and in the liver of the body and they can be stored there for six month the most. Examples of these fat-soluble vitamins are Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E and Vitamin K.

Nevertheless, the best sources of vitamins are through the foods that we eat. But then, when circumstances lead you to believe that you’re not getting enough of certain vitamins that you need, you can allow yourself to consider taking them. Although, taking any kind of vitamins or any medicine for whatever reason is best consulted first to a doctor or a medical professional who is particular in the vitamin field. There are incidences when the body can’t absorb a particular vitamin which is greatly needed by the body, such issues will be look upon to by your doctor to determine what may cause it to happen. By doing this, you will be on the right track to health with the vitamins you’re going to take.
