Strengthen Joints to Feel Good

It is an undeniable fact that with age comes inflammation and pain.  If are taking our body for granted it will become susceptible to disorders and diseases in the future.  You are spring chicken no longer.  There is a need to strengthen joints.  As a person ages the normal wear and tear of the joints will cause swelling and tenderness.  This is called arthritis.  The most common form which crops up in older people is commonly called osteoarthritis.  Osteoarthritis is also known as “degenerative joint disease”.

Arthritis may sound scary.  But you should know that if you are physically active you are at risked in developing pain and stiffness in your joints, which may be caused by repetitive trauma, wear and tear, overuse, sprains, fractures, and breaks.   It can also happen at overweight people and people with poor posture.  Osteoarthritis usually sets in the joints of the hip, knee and spine.  Thickening of the ends of the bone may happen.

But the accompanying pain can be relieved sometimes with rest and exercise.  Exercise can help make stronger the muscles around the joint.  This is to lessen stress upon the joint.  Running or other strenuous exercise may not appropriate.  But still all things considered you must remain active. In more serious indications drugs may be taken to reduce the inflammation and pain.  But surgery can be an option in very severe osteoarthritis.  Surgery is to replace or repair the damaged joint.

To prevent further deterioration of the joints you instead strengthen your joints.  How do you go about strengthening the joints?  Riding bikes, climbing stairs and swimming are all great ways to strengthen joints. Biking is simple and easy.  It can be done by all people of all ages.  It does not require a lot of effort to go biking.

Another form of strengthening the joints is by stretching.  Pilates can be of help if done in moderation.  Stretching exercises are important method to strengthen joints.
It makes you nimble and feeling nice at the same time.  Stretching should be done everyday.  But not for a longer period of time.  Moderation is always the magic word.

Stiffness in older people is usually cause by being immobile.  You have to move in order to fight age related disorders.  Climb the stairs at all cost.  This is a cost effective way of strengthening joints.  The bones, muscles and other joints of the body are strengthened as well.  The stairs are accessible and they are everywhere.

To break the monotony of biking, climbing stairs and stretching go swimming for a change.  You don’t have to be a good swimmer.  Just use the pool for a good exercise so that joints will be strengthened.  Stop being a couch potato when you grow older.  You can still be productive if you determine so.

The television has been said is not good for kids and it can be said also it is not good when we grow older.  Exercise is fun when you become interested in doing it.  Remember it is for you to decide if you want to get rid of the pain and the swelling.
