Anhidrosis : Causes and Treatment of Anhidrosis
Anhidrosis is a medical condition where the body doesn’t have the ability to produce sweat or not having the ability to perspire in response to heat. This condition may go on unnoticed and the recognition will only take place when a considerable amount of effort, exertion or heat fails the body to cause sweating.
Perspiration or sweating is triggered by our body’s emotion. These sweats usually occur on our face, palms of the hands, feet soles and especially under our arms. The amount of sweat and even the smell of it are set by certain factors, such as body mood, medication or medical condition, certain beverages and foods; which brings the awriness in the perspiration mechanism. This complex mechanism awriness may sometimes result to hyperhidrosis which is excessive sweating that can be very embarrassing at time for most people and may also be a sign of a major health problem or it may lead to nonexistent sweating which is anhidrosis.

When perspiration is only localized within the body, the lack of sweating is not usually as dangerous when the lack of sweating happens all over the body which will cause the body to over heat. There are exercises and daily activities which may bring us to sweat several quarts of fluid, but when the body is not perspiring at all especially under circumstances when the weather is too dry and the heat of the sun is too hot, this anhidrosis condition is already very dangerous and life threatening.
There are plenty of reasons for this condition. The common reasons for anhidrosis are excessive dehydrations which happen when severe water loss had happened to the body and it wasn’t replaced. This condition can be fatal especially to children.
Heatsroke just like dehydration is water lost and not replaced which can also be very serious the body’s mechanism are not normal anymore; it can’t deal with the heat and sweating is lost. Signs of heatstroke are confusion, dry, hot skin and with severe cases coma.
Drugs and medication are sometimes antipsychotic which are used to treat serious illnesses and mental disorders that may cause interference with the normal functioning of the sweat glands.
Burns especially major or third degrees can cause damage to the sweat gland even to the muscles, including the bones.
Sweat gland infections such as hidradenitis prevent the glands to function normally.
Autonomic neuropathy is a condition where some nerves are damage that controls the involuntary function of the body’s autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system regulates the body’s internal organs, blood pressure and sweat glands, thus damages to its nerves may harm their normal function.
Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia occurs in children whom are born without sweat glands which make them risk potential to overheating fatality or hyperthermia.
Gulliain-Barre syndrome which is a neurological disorder that causes inflammation of the peripheral nerves which causes paralysis of the nerves that leads to sweating disorders.
Anhidrosis is treatable and the treatment for this condition is to simply find the cause and treat it. Steps to prevent dehydration, heatstroke and heat exhaustions should also be taken into action.
